Brassovia Stronghold
-
Brassovia Stronghold has been built at the end of the XIIIth century, as a place of refuge for the inhabitants of the town, on a table-land located on the southern and the western side of Tâmpa massif, 960 m height. The walls, of which only fragments are conserved today, used to encompass a very large area of 23.000 square meters, with a plan adapted to the field configuration, defence towers, a water tank and a chapel dedicated to Saint Leonard.
Uneasily reachable from the town, difficult to maintain because of its very size and became a danger for the town already surrounded by walls, should it be occupied by the enemies, the stronghold, recorded in the historical documents in 1434, was demolished following the order of Iancu of Hunedoara at the middle of the XVth century.
The remnants of Brassovia stronghold will be conserved and turned to advantage, as the entire area provides a remarkable panorama over the town.
